Fuerteventura is home to mile after mile of golden beaches that stretch into the distance alongside shimmering turquoise seas which off a mouth-watering menu of water sports.

The strong trade winds that blow in from the Atlantic make Fuerteventura one of the top destinations in the world for surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding and sailing. As such Fuerteventura continually hosts some exhilarating international water sport events like the PWA Grand Slam and the PWA Windsurfing & PKRA Kiteboarding World Cup. However this November, it’s a land-based sport that will dazzle spectators and create a wonderful family weekend.

The Fuerteventura International Kite Festival is a fascinating and fun-filled event that fills the intense blue skies of Corralejo with over 240 staggering kites. Founded in 1987, the Fuerteventura Kite Festival attracts kite-flyers from all over the world to take advantage of the early November trade winds and showcase their spectacular skills and craftsmanship.

The Festival is a terrific event with plenty of fun activities and impressive displays to take in. located on the idyllic Playa Del Burro next to the impressive dunes of Corralejo National Park, it makes for a stunning venue which mirrors the bewitching activity in the sky. The festivities begin on Friday the 10th November with commemorative t-shirts handed out and a laid back all day “free-fly”, Saturday passes by without much fan fare in preparation for Sunday’s big finale.

Sunday is the day you can’t afford to miss. It’s a cracking day out for kids who receive a kite to have a go themselves and then it literally starts raining sweets as parachuting teddy bears drop sweets whilst the kids scramble around to catch them before they hit the sand. One of the highlights of the day includes the exciting Kite Battle, where two stunt kites engage in a dramatic aerial duel. Embrace The Wild Side Of The Canaries

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

In the Canary Islands, the fight for the spotlight is usually a four way tussle between Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Lanzarote, with little La Palma forced to watch from the sidelines.

But that’s okay, La Palma revels in its bit-part role. La Palma doesn’t even want the spotlight. La Palma is quiet, it’s rugged, it’s beautiful, it’s untarnished by tourism and it’s everything the Canaries used to be. It’s an island of dramatic beauty; craggy mountains, looming volcanoes, theatrical ravines, wild forests, and striking black beaches that make La Palma a feast for the eyes.

Many tourists who’ve discovered La Palma choose to rent rural casitas and surround themselves in the island’s rugged countryside and spend their days hiking and exploring the untamed beauties of La Palma. However, there are also a few towns in La Palma with some excellent beachfront accommodations whether that be tasteful low-rise apartments or luxury holiday villas.

Los Cancajos is perhaps the closest thing to the holiday resorts of the Canary Islands “big four” but is no less charming and is an excellent base from which to explore the island due to its proximity to the capital. Puerto Naos and Puerto Tazacorte are two traditional towns on the west coast of the island and are popular, by La Palma’s standards anyway, as they boast some of the best beaches in the island.

The natural wonders of La Palma make for some breathtaking days out and one of the island’s highlights centre’s around La Palma’s volcanic beginnings. Located in the heart of La Palma, the Parque Nacional De La Caldera De Taburiente is a tranquil and mesmerising national park full of thick pine forests and majestic freshwater springs, streams and waterfalls as well as some impressive rock formations. The enormous Caldera De Taburiente is the jaw-dropping spot where an ancient volcano collapsed on itself and left an 8 kilometre wide dent in the earth ringed by soaring rocky walls. Also found in the park is the Astrophysical Observatory at Roque De Los Muchachos, the highest point of the island, for some delightful star-gazing.

Unearth the Canary Island’s best kept secret and rent a holiday villa in La Palma for a holiday unlike any other in the Canaries. Visit our micro site Villas Canary Islands.com to have a look at some of our best holiday accommodation in La Palma.

Stick With Trusty Puerto Del Carmen This Half-Term

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Half terms’s coming up fast and with the variety of family getaways becoming more and more bamboozling every year, why not stick with an old favourite and book a holiday villa in Puerto Del Carmen.

If the old saying “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it” is anything to go by, Puerto Del Carmen certainly isn’t broke. Long established as Lanzarote’s principal tourist resort, Puerto Del Carmen has been bringing in tourists by the bucket-load for 40 years now. Its bewitching blend of sun, sea and sand has made it a favourite for predominantly British families who
swoon at the thought of its golden beaches and myriad of fun-filled activities.

From starting out as a sleepy Canarian fishing village, Puerto Del Carmen is now a booming holiday resort packed with an astonishing array of bars, restaurants, amenities and activities to suit all tastes and to provide every family with a delightful holiday. Puerto Del Carmen is as diverse as any resort you’ll find in Lanzarote, flicking from the raucous bar laden “Strip”, to the charming and traditional mazy “Old Town” in a heartbeat.

There is also a diverse range of beaches in Puerto Del Carmen, if you’re looking to escape the bucket and spade brigade in Playa Grande then there are plenty of smaller beaches and coves including Pena Grande, Pila De La Barrilla and the hotel beach of Fariones. If you fancy something a bit more active then Playa Chica is a pretty little cove perfectly kitted out for all the water sports you could dream of. The volcanic rock formations of this beach make it an excellent snorkeling and scuba diving location and there’s even a dive school on hand if you catch the diving bug. The kids will also love the jetty which provides a great platform from which they can safely jump into the sea, and when they get bored of that you can hire jet skis and banana boats for a fun-filled adrenaline fix.

So book a half-term break to the tried and trusted Puerto Del Carmen this October for a family vacation that everyone can enjoy. Book a holiday villa in Puerto Del Carmen from our micro site Villas Canary Islands.com today which has a terrific array of holiday homes throughout the Canaries.

Make a new discovery in Fuerteventura…

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Fuerteventura is known as the beach capital of all the Canary Islands. Its coast stretches from Cofete to the lively, bar lined stretches in Jandia. A large proportion of the sand dunes are home to the “Parque Natural de Corralejo”. This huge national park stretches along the coast for 10 kilometres and is a marvellous tourist attraction.
Corralejo is one of the most popular towns on the island due to its clever mix of old and new with traditional tapas bars in the old town and karaoke bars and clubs in the resort centre.
The small town of Costa Caleta is another family favourite on the island. A little further along the coast it is not difficult to find beaches, water sports, restaurants and bars.
The Jandia peninsula in the south, meanwhile, teams up national park-protected beaches with duty-free shopping complexes and a clutch of cocktail bars. The coast line in Jandia proves to be very successful with water sporting activities and contains some of the best in Europe. Kite surfing, windsurfing and Water skiing are just a few amongst a wide variety of activities available and are favourites amongst the locals.
If you can drag yourself away from the shoreline, Fuerteventura’s interior is well worth exploring. Wind-whipped lava fields and valleys of euphorbia give way to centuries-old villages that have missed the march of mass tourism.
If you are keen to make a visit to this glorious island and have a holiday you won’t forget, visit our website and villascanaryisland.

The Peaceful Side of Gran Canaria

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Gran Canaria is a beautifully diverse island where 197 kilometres of coastline and 50 beautiful beaches attract thousands of holidaymakers to rent holiday villas all over the island. September is the perfect time to visit Gran Canaria with the swarms of tourists dissolving away and the temperatures remaining as hot as ever, the island returns to it’s dazzling best.

Many of the most popular resorts in Gran Canaria can be found on the southern coast of the island and are overrun with tourists throughout the summer. However, one of it’s most charming and most refreshing towns is Puerto De Mogan. Found on the southwestern coast, this old fishing village is a wonderfully enchanting resort where beauty and tranquility combine with a laid-back atmosphere to create a holiday unlike any other in Gran Canaria.

Nicknamed the ‘Venice of the Canaries’, Puerto De Mogan exudes an air of opulence and charm like nowhere else in Gran Canaria, the old town is bursting with quaint and colourful houses and along intricate narrow paths, vibrant flowers fall from arches and balconies overhead. A pretty network of canals, small bridges and promenades snake through town and provide delightful walkways and a romantic ambience to a town already so charming and unique.

After soaking up the dazzling town centre of Puerto de Mogan, head down to the water front where the harbour and marina provide an alluring blend of fine dining, magnificent vistas and a captivating array of activities to undertake, such as jet skiing, scuba diving and dolphin spotting. The marina is home to an anarchic mixture of fishing boats, yachts and sailing boats that bring the trendy jazz bars and seafood restaurants to life, it’s also a great place to watch the fishermen come home with their catch and the sailors take off on an expedition.

The beach itself is a picture of tranquility; a breakwater shelters swimmers from the powerful waves of the shimmering Atlantic ocean, making it an idyllic spot to while away the day in, the water is also filled with a variety of fish, making snorkeling a popular activity for kids and adults alike. Pedalos and canoes are also available for hire on Playa De Mogan, whilst on the soft golden sands of the bay, quaint sun loungers and parasols provide some shelter and some character to this mesmerizing spot.

And if you’re feeling a bit adventurous why not hop on the Yellow Submarine, which takes you on a fascinating underwater tour where you can spot different types of fish and marvel at mysterious caves and wrecks, deep-sea fishing tours also operate in Puerto De Mogan, giving you the opportunity to catch some world-record sized Tunas and Marlins.

If you’re looking for a relaxing sunny getaway away from the deteriorating weather back home, why not book a holiday villa in Puerto De Mogan from the Villas Canary Islands website which has some tremendous holiday villas all over the Canary Islands, making booking your holiday as relaxing as being on holiday!

Happy Mondays 12/9/11 : Pollensa

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

In the northeastern corner of Majorca the resort of Pollensa sparkles beneath the impressive craggy outline of the Tramuntana Mountains, displaying some of the most dramatic extremes northern Majorca has to offer. However, aside from charming hilltop villages, peaceful olive groves and jaw-dropping mountain ranges there’s a different tricolon that takes centre stage here; sun, sea and sand.

With miles upon miles of miles of Mediterranean skirted beach at your doorstep in a host of charming and diverse towns you really are spoilt for choice.

One of the principal locations in the area is Puerto Pollensa lying in the beautifully calm horse-shoe shaped bay and watched over by the colossal Tramuntana Mountains. Puerto Pollensa is as stylish as it is pretty with the marina and the Pine Walk seeing many tourists take lazy sun-drenched strolls against some of the most picturesque scenery on the island. The Pine Walk is one of the most popular ways to see Puerto Pollensa with pine trees and the golden sands of the bay lining either side of the 1 kilometre long walkway, so there’s an opportunity to cool off and dip your toes in the ocean whenever you want, and with many cafes and bars dotted around the resort a quick bite is never too hard to find.

Formentor is a spectacularly rugged peninsula blessed with magnificent views and breathtakingly dramatic beaches that find themselves nestled in between mountain and sea. There’s a wide variety of beaches in Formentor that range from the popular long, thin and sandy Formentor beach to the tiny secluded coves of Cala Murta and Cala Figuera on either side of the peninsula tucked in amongst the sheer drops of tree covered mountain that dominates this area of Majorca.

Then there’s the charm of the old fishing town of Cala San Vicente. It’s a tiny but pretty, and peaceful town, contrasting its wild landscape where mountains soar out of the ground and crash into the sea. Many homes, restaurants, and other buildings either cling to or bust out of these rocky landforms everywhere you turn and the same goes for the beaches in Cala San Vicente, as the three small coves and beaches in the town are all nestled among rocky outcrops creating a sense of tranquility that seems to linger in the air of this quaint old town.

This week’s Happy Monday winner is the gorgeous Villa Bonaire, this exquisite holiday villa in Pollensa is ideally located to sample everything this extraordinary region has to offer, click here to have a more detailed look at this stunning holiday home in Pollensa and book today!
