Naples Area Area Information
Facing the Tyrrhenian Sea with one of the most majestic coastlines in Europe, the region of Campania has been a magnet for tourists for over 2,000 years. From the glittering Bay of Naples to the enchanting island of Capri to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, visitors have been attracted to Campania by its astonishing natural beauty and its inviting climate.
Equally impressive is its heritage of ancient ruins, for Campania is an extraordinarily rich repository of classical antiquity. Amphitheaters, triumphal arches, villas, bridges and tombs are numerous and remarkable. Built in the 5th Century BC, the spectacular temples at Paestum are among the best preserved examples of classical Greek architecture in the world. In 79 AD the lava from Mt Vesuvius buried the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum; the remains of both, complete with colourful frescos and mosaics, can be seen today. Because the surrounding volcanic soil is unusually fertile, the superb fruits and vegetables grown in the area are often described as sublime.
The capital, Naples, is home to the National Archaeological Museum, containing one of the most important collections of its kind in the world. This vibrant city, with its beautiful setting on the Bay of Naples, has suffered a series of invaders, all of whom have left behind remnants of their civilizations, making Naples a fascinating city to explore. The islands in the Bay are linked to Naples by hydrofoil.
The Naples - Napoli / Capodimonte area
The Apartment is just 5 minutes far, walking from Capodimonte Museum and 15 minutes walking from the National Museum.
Moreover all the archaeological sites like Pompei and Ercolano, and other interst places as Capri can be easily reached by public transport means.
Set around one of the most beautiful bays in Italy, the Bay of Naples (Napoli), and lying in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, and in close proximity to the romantic islands of Capri and Ischia, Naples (Napoli) is the third-largest city in Italy.
Naples (Napoli), a former Greek trading centre, was established around 600 BC. The city was later conquered by the ancient Romans and became a residence of several emperors and other important persons of that time. Today, Naples (Napoli) is a bustling city located in a beautiful natural setting, with a colourful street life, chaotic traffic, and numerous narrow and winding alleyways that lead to many quaint shops and restaurants.
In fact the street is where Naples (Napoli) happens.
Life is lived here in all its chaotic glory. It’s bustling; it’s unique, where Neapolitan is a language in its own right and you’ll hear the harsh dialect bellowed at volume; it’s rich in historical, artistic, and cultural traditions and with its own distinct cuisine, where the pizza originated in the 18th century and is eaten, like so many other delicious local foods, out on the street. Naples (Napoli) is alive with movement; Neapolitans will engage nearly anyone in conversation and they love to interact almost as much as they love to eat outdoors.
And what does all of this add up to? One of the most exciting, vivid places you’ll ever visit. It also has some beautiful architecture, a thriving port area, and frequent ferries out to the lovely islands of Capri and Ischia; and the ancient world lies just out of town in the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Naples (Napoli) is an unforgettable experience. Visit the city’s grand cathedral, the Duomo. Originally dating from 1272, it has undergone numerous alterations. The Chiesa dei Girolamini, a beautiful baroque church with two facades, lies directly opposite. Don’t miss the Chiesa del Gesu Nuovo on the piazza of the same name. Dating from the 16th century, the church is one of Naples (Napoli)’s finest examples of Renaissance architecture.
Wander north of the Spaccanapoli district and visit the Museo Archeologico Nazionale. It boasts one of the most comprehensive collections of Graeco-Roman artifacts in the world, including some discovered at Pompeii and Herculaneum. It also houses the Borgia collection of Etruscan and Egyptian relics.
The beautifully located Castel Sant’Elmo is well worth a visit. Offering spectacular views out over the bay and the city itself, this star-shaped castle was built under Spanish vice-regal rule in 1538. The Palazzo Reale di Capodimonte is striking. Dating from 1738, it was the residence of the Bourbon King Charles III and is surrounded by what was once the hunting ground of the aristocracy. Today, the palazzo is home to the Museo e Gallerie di Capodimonte which houses an outstanding collection of Renaissance paintings: Bellini, Caravaggio, Botticelli, and El Greco are all represented.
Stroll in the Via Floridiana, the lush public park spilling down from the Vomero to Mergelina and visit the oldest opera house in Italy, the Teatro San Carlo in the elegant Piazza Trento e Trieste. Sunny, lively, and simply unforgettable, Naples (Napoli) is music, theater, Vesuvius, coffee, pizza, and the sea.
The house, surrounded by quiet and green open spaces, is also very central as regards the whole Naples’urban context. The Apartment “Antiche Terrazze” is infact situated in Salita Capodimonte 147, - 80131 Naples
Coming from the Highway, take the “Tangenziale di Napoli” up to the exit named “Uscita Capodimonte”. If you want to come by train, instead, from the Central Station take the underground railway towards Pozzuoli, stopping though in “Piazza Cavour” (it’s 1 only stop). 100m far you’ll find the bus stop named “Museo Archeologico”, hence you can take the C63 and R4 buses.
From the airport take the “Tangenziale di Napoli” up to the exit named “Uscita Capodimonte”. Or the "Aerobus" to the Central Station then catch underground.
