Arkady is an innovatively-designed apartment in Gialova, Messinia, Greece. Situated in an idyllic olive grove with stunning unobstructed views of the sea and mountains, Arkady is the choice for those who want a peaceful getaway in gorgeous natural surroundings. The well-equipped kitchen/ dining area has been built outdoors and forms part of the spacious (21 sqm) covered terrace, so that even while cooking or washing-up you can enjoy panoramic views of Navarino Bay, the island of Sphacteria and the lush valley and hills behind, populated by Olive and Cypress trees.

The only sounds to disturb the peace are the distant tinkling of goat bells and the owl which stops on the roof as part of its nightly routine.( It lived in the house while it was being built!)

The two bedrooms each have their own en-suite bathrooms and are separated by an entrance hall. With traditional wooden ceilings and roofspace airflow the bedrooms remain comfortable at night without air-con on all but the hottest nights.

There's a private dining area/ yoga space in the olive grove shaded by a vine-covered pergola and 7,2oo m2 of private olive grove to explore.

This lovely holiday accommodation in Gialova commands wonderful uninterrupted views of Navarino Bay and the island of Sphacteria. The whitewashed church of the tiny village of Pyla on the hill 3km away can be seen from the side window of the master bedroom and you can faintly hear the strains of the Greek Orthodox sung service wafting down the valley on Sunday mornings. Decorated in the same tranquil greens as the olive grove, the master bedroom has a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside drawers ie. plenty storage space. The second bedroom, in the same colours, has a large chest of drawers and bookshelves, well-stocked with interesting books and local information. There's a child's bed as well as a double, which can be converted into a cot if necessary.

Gialova Area Information

Arkady's 'local' beach is 800m through the olive groves, less than 15 minutes on foot. On the way you pass our nearest tavera which is open past midnight during the summer. After a swim you can walk walk further down the beach ( which is maintained and always clean ) to the centre of Gialova, with its boat jetty and selection of restaurants and shops. You pass a pleasant campsite which has a restaurant right on the beach, a great place to eat with children who may not want to be confined to a chair! There is nothing better than sitting on the warm sand under the stars with a jug of wine while the kids play on the shoreline. The water is shallow and very safe.

Approx. 15 mins drive from Gialova is one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Voidokilia is a horseshoe shaped bay with a perfect amphitheatre of wide, white sandy beach and dunes behind. There’s no development at all here – not even a café nearby, so bring a picnic and beach umbrella and don’t tell too many people about it ! The crystal-clear warm water is perfect for swimming, especially after a long but worthwhile scramble from the castle above the bay and the caves where reputedly Nestor kept his cows. The views over the Ionian Sea, Voidokilia and Sphacteria are gorgeous.

In Autumn the natural lagoon behind is teeming with a huge variety of migrating birds; some stopping off on their way south, some staying for the Winter and is a bird-watchers paradise. Even flamingoes have been spotted here. Kingfishers are a daily sight.
