Holiday Home Description

Podere le Volpaie was a medieval hamlet, then a 17th century villa, until it was completely refurbished and turned into a stunning complex of 24 apartments in 2008. Private entrance gates and drive just off the main road lead to the spectacular shared pool and terrace, then four buildings surrounding a courtyard and well.

Our apartment is spread over the two top floors (of four), with a living/dining room, kitchen, bathroom and balcony on the first floor, and two bedrooms and a second bathroom on the second floor.

Throughout there are terracotta tiles and wooden beams, in true Tuscan fashion. A travel cot and high chair make it suitable for infants.

Guests all comment on the stunning 360 degree views, looking up to the wonderful village of Montecatini on one side, and the beautiful medieval town of Volterra (made famous by Stephenie Meyer recently in her Twilight novel New Moon)on the other. Both are just a few klms away, and the immediately close by village of Saline offers all shops, banks, restaurants, cafes etc. The annual concert of Andrea Boccelli is held just 12 klms away, in his home area.

Volterra has dozens of restaurants, Roman and 17th century theatres, Etruscan acropolis and tombs, spectacular medieval palaces, delightful shops, and so much more.

Pisa Province Area Information

The complex is totally surrounded by countryside, cyprus and olive trees, and offers a very relaxing experience of that is what you want. For those who prefer to be active, it has easy access to the sea (20 mls) with lovely resorts, water parks, etc, and there are great walking and outdoor activity options.

For many visiting Tuscany it is the history and art that attracts, and we are within easy reach of the wonderful Tuscan cities such as Pisa (1hr), Sienna (1hr) and Florence (1.25 hrs). San Gimignano is closer still (45mins) and there are picturesque little hill towns to explore all around, many with an economy based on wine and food.

Fantastic regional food is based upon game in the countryside and fish at the coast, with cheap and expensive options. The wine is exceptional, with vineyards on the surrounding hillsides and unmixed vintages available on tap in the local shops for pennies. Ice creams are out of this world!
