This two thousand square foot townhouse, decorated throughout with an eclectic and interesting mix of antique and contemporary furniture, Oriental and Western paintings and prints, Chinese and Japanese antiques and reproduction Maya artifacts can be converted into separate one bedroom and two bedroom apartments, each with its own kitchen and dining area.

With three bedrooms, two baths, large kitchen, dining and living areas, it easily accomodates six to seven guests. There is air conditioning throughout, all necessary appliances and utensils, satellite t.v.'s in two of the bedrooms, disc player, comfortable sitting areas, second floor balcony and access to rooftop sunning.

Akumal Area Information

Akumal, with its popular beach and Yalku lagoon, sits at the heart of the Riviera Maya sixty miles south of Cancun. This friendly and laid-back community, in tune with its surroundings, is totally unlike the insulated all-inclusive resorts strewn like beached cruise ships on shores throughout the Caribbean. Here you can swim with sea turtles in their natural habitat and observe stingrays gliding gracefully over reef and sands. Akumal began as a divers' resort, and is still a convenient location from which to explore the nearby barrier reef (second only to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia) and the intricate system of underground rivers and water filled caverns in the cenotes of the surrounding jungle. Fishermen are also drawn here as are lovers of nature and of Mayan history and culture, along with vacationers intent only on getting as much sun, sea and sand as possible.

Casa Gatos is conveniently located on a quiet interior lane facing a natural park in the quaint residential neighborhood of Yalku, 350 feet from Yalku Lagoon, 800 feet from the entance to the beach on Half Moon Bay and within an easy walk or ride to Akumal Beach.

Behind a vine covered limestone wall, cut and fitted in the ancient Mayan style, the house surrounds a broad courtyard where neighbors have gathered for Thanksgiving Dinner or annual cocktail parties. There guests can have their morning coffee while they sit and enjoy the serene beauty of the lush, colorful garden that flows onto the interior terrace, the only sounds the whisper of the wind, the calls of exotic birds and the buzzing of honey bees busily collecting pollen from the budding palms.

Take advantage of the many activities and attractioins available in Akumal and surrounding areas of the Riviera Maya. Then relax on the garden in the sun or under the new tented gazebo. This year we have added a new gym/exercize room for guests who are interested in maintaing fitness while they are here.

In the evenings you can walk along the foliage bordered streets of the Yalku neighborhood beneath a sky overwhelming in its multitude of stars, or you can dine at one of the local restaurants or have a night out in nearby Playa del Carmen and join the crowds on Fifth Avenue
