Some combinations are not possible, usually because they are simply too far apart. You may have heard of something you really fancy but we don’t offer. Just tell us. La Pause Parfaite is all about you and we can have a conversation about your heart’s desire and see what we can do.

If you are travelling at short notice, you should book your flight as soon as you know we can accommodate you, and we will sort out the rest afterwards. You can arrive by plane or train to any of the arrival points in the Languedoc. The nearest airports are Montpellier and Beziers, as are the nearest rail stations.

However Nimes, Perpignan and Carcassonne are not too much further away. Our Jaguar limousine will meet you at your chosen rendezvous with a bottle of sparkling wine. From there you will smooth along to you host, claim your bed and dump your luggage.

You may want to do nothing, spend a day sleeping, or lazing by a pool somewhere. If you really, really want to do nothing, you can ask us to confiscate your mobile phones. If you have chosen to actually DO something, then we will collect you at the appointed hour, deliver you, make sure all is OK. If you wish, your chauffeur can accompany you in your Pause to assist you; otherwise he will retire to a safe distance and then pick you up when you are ready.

The Languedoc region is one of France’s best kept secrets. While Provence and the Cote d’Azur just across the Rhone have been living it up, attracting film stars, and trippers, its neighbour has remained in comfortable obscurity. The landscape, varied and rugged and its distinct cultures, combine to make this a romantic region epitomizing all that is France. Its remote villages and little travelled roads open the window onto a disappearing European rural culture, alive and well in The Languedoc. It has the same magical light and sunny climate,as the Cote D’Azur, but there’s still a sense that the Languedoc is the ‘Real South of France’ or, as we locals prefer, the ‘thinking person’s Provence’.

It’s the French Mediterranean but relaxed, laid-back, minus the glitter. It does not do gin palaces, fake or even real designer glitz, it does not do nose to tail traffic, nor moody waiters. What it does do is simple... style! What it lacks is pretention, and all the better for that.

The Languedoc, which includes Pezenas and other lovely mediaeval towns and villages, has some pretty fabulous things to see and do. Picnic in the vines, or wander over the medieval ramparts of Carcassonne, or sail serenely along the Canal du Midi in your bateau for two, or trek on a pony down to Lac Salagou. Climb up to elevated Cathar castles, or wonder at the impossibility of the Norman Foster designed bridge at the Viaduc de Millau. Kayak down the magnificent Gorges du Tarn. Go wine tasting – the Languedoc- makes more wine than any place in the world, and the new passionate wine makers help La Pause Parfaite turn your break into something memories are made of.

When to go:

Spring: Spring starts early in the Languedoc, usually February. With bright blue skies, and lots of sunshine, the temperature during the day even in February can be in the 20's. This is when we have some rain, although often at night. Watch the brown stick-like vines start to stretch up and sprout the first signs of new growth. Look out for the wild boar in the early morning and evening taking a stroll with their young. Walk over the hills and identify the wild orchids.

Summer: There are many good reasons to come to the Languedoc in the summer. Fetes, festivals and concerts abound. The weather is totally reliable, so reliable in fact that this may be a draw back in making your decision as to what you want to do. The fact is you may want to do nothing!

Autumn: The time of the vendage, warm days and still warm nights. The grapes are harvested now, mushrooms are hunted, the chasse are out every Sunday looking for wild rabbits and game. The vines turn from green to shades of yellow, red and orange. A beautiful season.

Winter: Winters in France start in December and finish in February. They are usually dry, the days often warm and the nights often cold. Shop for your Christmas presents in Montpellier, and you will never want to face the crowds in your home city again. The shops are for the most part individual privately owned. Your gift will be wrapped up for you, leaving you only to place it under the tree. Recover from this arduous task by lunching in Le Comedie, basking in the sunshine and listening to the local buskers.
