Holiday Home Description

At the front of the house there is a patio area with garden table and chairs. La Vigne has access to both courtyards with a front and back entrance to the property. The bedrooms consist of one very spacious room with a super king bed and single bed and also two twin rooms. There is a bathroom with a bath and separate shower, toilet and washbasin. Each bedroom has ample storage.

The lounge is extremely spacious lounge with the original fireplace to add character. There is plenty of comfortable seating for everyone and the TV/DVD player has access to some English programmes also. The lounge leads to kitchen/dining area which is fully fitted with all the necessary equipment to give you that home from home feeling.

The Old Shades (Les Vieilles Ombres) is a former Cognac estate consisting of our family home and four gites - a large cottage which can accommodate eight people, another for five people and two smaller gîtes each accommodating two to four people.

Set within three acres of walled parkland (making it an ideal location for those with small children), there are two traditional gated entrances to The Old Shades, each leading into their own spacious courtyard. There is ample parking for all gites within the grounds.

Guests at The Old Shades have a shared heated swimming pool, which is fenced and gated for safety. At the side of the pool is a large patio area with sun loungers, umbrellas and tables to enable you to relax and enjoy the sunshine until late in the day. There is even a separate changing room, shower and toilet located at the side of the pool.

In the village, just a short walk away, there is a tennis court available - we can provide you with both rackets and balls for this.

We have the following facilities at The Old Shades:

We can provide all the equipment needed for the above facilities.

There is a stone BBQ situated by each gite along with a garden table & chairs. Should the sun get a little too hot then you can enjoy some welcome shade under one of the many varieties of trees in the garden or even in the 'hangar' which is a sheltered area that stays very cool.

Each of our four gites have been renovated and

furnished to the highest standards - to provide wonderfully comfortable accommodation featuring everything you need to feel that this is your “home

from home”.

For your arrival we provide a welcome pack which

includes butter, cheese, pate and wine as well as

cleaning materials.

All gas and electricity for the gite is included in

the price of your gite.

Each fitted kitchen is fully equipped with:

•dishwasher

•washing machine

•microwave

•full size cooker

•fridge with freezer section

•toaster, kettle & coffee machine

•sufficient cutlery, glasses and crockery

•iron & hairdryer

•ironing board - on request

Bed linen and towels are also included – additional

linen can be supplied for a small supplement. Please

remember to bring your own pool/beach towels although we do have a selection for hire, if you would prefer.

If you have small children a full sized babies cot

or travel cot and a high chair can be provided. Please reserve at the time of booking.

Each gite has digital satellite television (with English

programmes e.g BBC/ITV/Channel 4, DVD player – with

access to our large selection of DVD’s, radio/ CD player

and electric heating or central heating.

A refundable breakage and maintenance deposit of

€150/ £100 is payable with the final payment.

All that we ask is that you take care to leave your gite

in the condition that you would hope to find it. If you

are unable to clean your gite before you leave this can

be arranged for you at a small supplement.

Charente Maritime Area Information

The Old Shades (known as Les Vieilles Ombres in French) is situated in the Charente Maritime region of France, famous for its long summers and mild winters. Its 370 kilometer stretch of the Atlantic Coast boasts some of the most beautiful costal scenery, with long beaches of white sand combined with pine woods and rugged cliffs.

We are located in the small village of Bagnizeau just 4 minutes drive from the market town of Matha where you will find a variety of shops and amenities. We are also within easy reach of the world famous town of Cognac, where a tour around around one of the well known names such as Hennesy or Remy Martin will help you understand the history and making of this very famous drink. Saintes, Angouleme, St Jean D'Angely and La Rochelle are amongst some of the other places that are well worth visiting during your stay in the Charente Maritime.

The beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Coast are within an hours drive. There is so much to do in the beautiful countryside surrounding us golf, cycling, horse riding, walking, fishing to name but a few. For the children a visit to the world famous zoo at Royan and of course the aquarium at La Rochelle as well as a variety of museums will help keep them amused throughout your holiday.

The Old Shades provides an opportunity for like-minded dreamers to escape the rat race, recharge their batteries and enjoy some of the splendours of this part of France.
