Haute Vienne Area Information
The gîte benefits from its hamlet location near two rivers, giving the opportunity for walking or cycling. Just 10 minutes away is the beautiful medieval town of Le Dorat, for restaurants, cafés, shops and the many fêtes, markets and festivals held during the summer. The lovely town of Montmorillon, with its Cité de l’Écrit (city of writing), is a half-hour drive away and well worth a visit. Chauvigny also makes a great day out with its large Saturday market, old town with castle and cathedral, glass-blowing studio and open-air restaurants. This area is known as the lake district of France - one of the largest, Lac St. Pardoux offers beaches, watersports, swimming and many picnic spots. Both Limoges and Poitiers are within an hour's drive and provide excellent shopping and dining opportunities.
