Fishing: You can charter boats on the quayside at Peniche (10 mins). Diving: available off the coast of Peniche. Equestrian: There are centres at Óbidos and Lourinhã. Bowling: A new centre had opened in Caldas da Rainha (20 mins). Thermal Spas: available at Torres Vedras and Caldas da Rainha. Vineyards: The region is one of the largest wine growing areas of Portugal. Shopping: Lisbon offers everything from local artefacts to designer boutiques.
HISTORICAL Wellington's fortifications against Napoleon's invasions (the 'Linhas de Torres') can be found near Torres Vedras. There are also numerous historical battle sites, churches, castles.
