Onich near Fort William Area Information
The site is in an ideal central position for touring the Highlands and Islands, covering a wide range of leisurely pursuits and activities. The Islands of Skye, Mull, lona and many more are reasonably accessible as are numerous mainland locations. Onich is an ideal base for discovering the magic this part of Scotland has to offer.
For the energetic, the ski and climbing areas of Glencoe and the Nevis Range, are within 30 minutes car journey. The rambler and mountain biker is spoilt for choice also, with many official designated routes.
Alternatively, spend some time just relaxing by your holiday cottage taking in the view or stroll down to the secluded rugged beach at the foot of our site. Springwell lies in an exceptional area for wildlife and is within a National Scenic Area.
Springwell represents the West Highlands of Scotland at their very best where the dramatic mountains of brooding Glencoe meet the stunning Lochaber coastline. The steep sloping former croft comprises an area of natural woodland of great ecological interest with rich diversity of flora and fauna. The hillside, russet with bracken in Autumn and clad with bluebells in early summer, is fringed with birch, hazel, holly, alder, willow and ash.
With the exception of the original croft house, the cottages are reached by a short steep drive and sit on a secluded hillside plateau high above the road, making the best of the outstanding views.
Getting Here
The road to Springwell is a romantic journey through the Scottish Highlands, taking about 2 hours from Perth.
From the rich agricultural land around Perth follow the A85 along the Earn Valley
Take the A82 through Bridge of Orchy, across desolate Rannoch Moor and thread your way down rugged Glencoe, surely the most dramatic and atmospheric of the Highland glens, to the bridge where Loch Leven meets the sea at South Ballachulish. Almost there!
Follow the signs for Fortwilliam, still on the A82 and, after 2 miles, as you enter the village of Onich, at the second 30mph warning sign you will see the entrance to Springwell signed on the right. Take the turning and follow the steep drive to your home for the duration of your stay. (For satnav the postcode is PH33 6RY).
