The riad is built around a courtyard, on three levels, rising to the terrace with wonderful panoramic views and the Atlas mountains in the distance. The terrace is designed for relaxing. It has sun-beds, a furnished tent (for shade and cool) and a table for breakfast and dinner. Riad Najmati especially welcomes those who want to experience the very largely unspoilt heart of an ancient North African city renowned for its history, music, culture, architecture, vibrant life and welcoming people. From the moment Abdellah meets you at the airport or station he will look after you and make sure your stay is enjoyable. He prepares and serves your breakfast. If requested he will cook dinners from the menu in the riad which has all the facilities and charm you would expect from a faithfully restored building dating back about 400 years. It is offered on a bed and breakfast basis, with self-catering facilities as well. The resident manager is on site for the comfort and security of guests.

Price is for riad room(s) per day/week, not per person, in UK pounds/Euroland euros or equivalent. Airport/station collection, taxi + breakfast included. £350/7 nights, one bedroom, two people. Best 'From' price available at certain periods of the year, to returning visitors, for 7-days, if paid 3 months in advance. Pro-rata pricing for shorter/longer periods. Salon (on first floor balcony) sofa bed (single).

Other: Courtyard has dining table/chairs, fountain and a wc.

Cleaning/towels/

linen/maid service: Towels and linen are included. The riad and your rooms are cleaned and serviced daily. Linen and towels changed weekly or on request. Abdellah is on site and takes care of both guests and the riad.

Heating is available in each room in winter, and fans for the summer. Children and young people are welcome.

Accessibility

Access to the riad in through narrow, but flat lanes. The nearest taxis can come to the riad is 500 yards. There are no specially adapted facilities for those with mobility problems or wheelchairs. Sorry. There are two steep staircases, with handrails.

Outside

The riad has an internal, enclosed courtyard at ground level, a semi-enclosed balcony with chaise longue bed on the first floor, and a private terrace on the third level, with tent (very romantic!), sun beds, parasol, shower, and a barbecue.

Marrakesh Area Information

Coast/Beach

The nearest coast and natural beaches are at Essaouria which is two hours by coach or car (165 km). A trip there makes an enjoyable day's excursion and Abdellah can make the arrangements.

Golf

There are many well designed 18 hole golf courses on the outskirts of Marrakesh, within 20 minutes of the riad. They include the Royal Golf Club, the Amelkis Golf Club and the Palmarie Golf Club.

Skiing

Skiing is available one hour from Marrakesh, and a new ski lift has been installed at Oukaimeden (75km). It is usually possible to hire the ski lift even in the summer to take you to the summit for a wonderful view. Negotiate a price on the spot.

Travel

Marrakesh Menara is the nearest airport and it has the great advantages of being clean, new, spacious, and only 10 minutes from the riad by taxi. Abdellah will meet you and the taxi fare is included in the price. There is no need to hire a car, but cars for hire are readily available if required. Large taxis can be hired for day trips at very reasonable rates.

Mountain bikes can also be hired for exploring the Atlas.

Distances

It is 100 yards to the nearest (very small) shops and bakery. A two minute walk gets you to the bustle of the frenetic souk which can be easily explored in foot - preferably over several days. If you want large European style supermarkets they are 5 mins in a (very cheap) taxi in the new part of younger Marrakesh called Gueliz. Palaces, gardens, and museums are all within easy walking distance, or a short taxi ride. Consult any of the numerous guide books: Rough Guide, Time Out etc.

Cash machines (ATM's) and banks are never far away in Marrakesh.

Good priced restaurants are 5 minutes walk away, and in the large square Jame el Fna, there are numerous stalls offering freshly prepared and cheap evening meals with a very lively atmosphere. It is a sight to behold - be prepared for something very different. The riad contains a Guests Book which gives personal recommendations to a range of cafes, shops and excursions.
