Rosclogher House has a unique charm set as it is in its own 4 acres of lightly wooded grounds. It lies half a mile down a small lane and provides complete privacy and tranquility. The location is stunning with Lough Melvin stretching out on one side of the house and the Dartry hills on the other. A wealth of stone and wood give the house a warm and traditional feel, with exposed beams, a wood burning stove and a sun room with breathtaking views across the lake.

The surrounding area is ideal for outdoor pursuits with an excellent links golf course 5 miles away, trout fishing in Lough Melvin, sea angling facilities all along the coast, salmon fishing in the nearby Drowes river, hill walking, surfing and horse riding all within easy reach.

The house is comfortably furnished in a homely style - it is also our own holiday home. Downstairs the house is on two levels and is mostly open plan, giving it an airy, light and spacious feel. Oak doors and floors together with exposed beams give an old world charm. There is oil-fired central heating throughout. The kitchen has an oil-fired range cooker, an electric hob, fridge/freezer and walk-in larder. There is a large table in the kitchen area seating 6 comfortably. The living room also has a dining table with seating for 6, a satellite TV, a wood burning stove and sofas for 6. Leading from the living room is a large sunroom with vaulted timber ceiling and wonderful views on all 3 sides.

The house is within its own 4 acre grounds - mostly grass and woodland, all of which is available for guests to use. It lies close to the shore of Lough Melvin; the lane on which the house stands continues to the lake side. There is ample parking for several cars in the driveway close to the house.

Kinlough Area Information

Often referred to as 'Lovely Leitrim' the area is known for its lakes, fast flowing rivers, and limestone hills. The coast of Donegal Bay is close by (5 miles) with long sandy beaches, high dunes, small harbours and sheer cliffs. This area of north west Ireland is sparsely populated and largely unspoilt - ideal for walking, fishing and seaside pursuits.

The area is rich in Irish history from megalithic tombs to the ruins which date from the potato famine. Buildings that survive from earlier ages include Parkes Castle on Lough Gill, Donegal Castle, Sligo Abbey and Florence Court country house - all open to the public. Places of interest nearby include Mullaghmore Harbour (built by Palmerstone) and Classiebawn House (the home of the Mountbattens), Lissadell House (home of the Gore-booth family), Marble Arch caves with an underground lake and Rossnowlagh strand onto which you can drive your car.

The nearby coast at Streedagh was the scene of many Spanish Armada shipwrecks (in 1588), the long curving strand being ideal for a bracing seaside walk. the nearby town of Beleek is world renowned for its china factory.

The Kinlough area

The beaches are internationally renowned for their surfing quality - Bundoran (5 miles) being the host for an annual surfing festival. Ballyshannon (8 miles has an annual music festival). The Drowes river is renowned for its salmon fishing, and a trip to Inishmurray - an island nine miles off the coast - which was abandoned in the 1950s but still houses some remarkable early christian beehive settlements - is a must if weather permits. At the south eastern end of the lake is the Organic Centre with a small shop, cafe and courses in all aspects of horticulure.

By Air:

Nearest airport (1 hour 20 minutes by car) is Knock (West of Ireland) with cheap flights by Ryanair and others from many UK airports. Londonderry airport (1 hour 30 minutes by car, Belfast City Airport (2.hours 30 minutes by car) and Dublin Airport (3 hours by car) are also served by a variety of airlines including Flybe, Easyjet and Air Lingus.

By car:

Kinlough, the nearest village (2.5 miles), can be reached through Sligo which is 25 miles to the south, or Enniskillen which is 25 miles to the north-east. Rosclogher House is 2.5 miles from Kinlough off the R281 road (signed Rossinver and Kiltyclogher at Kinlough.

By train

Sligo is the nearest train terminus (direct line from Dublin), and Ballyshannon (about 8 miles away) is the nearest coach point with services from Dublin and Belfast.
