This extensive apartment is situated on the top 2 floors of a 19th Century building, which we believe may have some connection with the French Resistance. Offering a master bedroom with en-suite, along with two further bedrooms set out as a double and a twin there is a family bathroom with bath and shower along with double washbasins to cater for all the guests.

Downstairs, a large lounge and dining room offers plenty of space for up to 6 adults to dine, relax and unwind with room to spare. Flat screen TV with over 100 channels in many languages, along with free wireless broadband and a iPod compatible sound dock should satisfy all your modern requirements. Books and games are also available.

The kitchen is set out for a relaxed stay, with dishwasher, microwave, oven and hob along with all the utensils and crockery we believe you would need to cook a gourmet meal. A small utility off the kitchen holds the washing machine along with iron and ironing board.

The main bathroom has double sinks, allowing each bedroom their own wash area, along with a large bath and shower over, with mirrored shower enclosure.

All the bedrooms come with plenty of hanging space and hangers. Beds will be made up on your arrival, with plenty of towels for all the guests for your stay.

Just across the street there is a tree lined car park, which offers short term parking during the day, 8am - 6pm and free overnight and weekend parking.

There are plenty of spots along the street to park in order to drop off the luggage or the shopping and for a secure, cost effective car park, you have a 2 minute walk across to Gambetta, where a weeks parking will cost you 20 euros.

All beds will be made on arrival and a welcome pack provided. Where required, additional groceries and supplies can be provided for the beginning of the rental, at a charge.

For stays of 7 nights or more, a mid rental clean and change of linen is included in the rental price. This will take place on the Friday commencing the second week.

The original stone spiral staircase in the entrance hall may make this apartment unsuitable for very small children and those with mobility restrictions.

A refundable breakages / additional cleaning deposit of £150 / 150€ is required prior to keys being dispatched and will be refunded on receipt of the keys.

This apartment runs a strictly no smoking policy, and evidence of smoking will incur a charge against the deposit.

A 25% booking deposit is required for Cash payments, through either internet banking, cheque or PayPal. The remainder to be paid 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the rental agreement.

For credit card payments (Pounds Sterling only), payment is required in full at time of booking, with no additional charges levied for the use of this type of payment whilst the rental proceeds. If however there is a cancellation at 56+ days, there will be a charge for the card processing fees associated with the initial transaction.

Deposits and credit card payments are refundable under the following basis:

*** In Instances where the booking has been made by credit card and there is a requirement for a refund 56+ days prior to the rental commencing, the following charges will be incurred to cover the cost of the credit card processing fee:

1 week booking or less - £25

2 week booking or less - £45

For stays of a longer duration, the charges would be confirmed at the time of booking.

Our rental contract states that keys to the apartment will be sent prior to the commencement of the rental.

If this is not possible, eg you are not able to receive them or you are travelling and you require our apartment manager to meet you on arrival, there will be a minimum charge of £30 to be agreed at the time of request.

In the case where a short notice rental takes place, this fee will be agreed at the time of rental.

Carcassonne Area Information

Bordered by the Mediterranean coast to the east and the Pyrenees to the south, the region of Languedoc Roussillon benefits from a Mediterranean climate and a wealth of history.

The list of things to see seems endless and includes to name a few; Mountains with fortresses known as the Cathar Castles with all the history associated therein, Rivers, Lakes, Towns, Abbeys, Cathedrals, Canals, Chateaus and World Heritage Sites, of which La Cite in Carcassonne is one.

A popular destination for French Holidays, the long sunny days and milder winters provide fantastic opportunities to explore the region.

The Carcassonne area

The 2nd most visited city in France after the capital, Carcassonne offers a wealth of activities for the city visitor and for those willing to travel further afield.

On the banks of the river Aude lies its famous fortified medieval town, La Cité which was restored in the 19th century, allowing you to wander along its narrow cobbled streets and ramparts. Along with the regular attractions of history and castle to explore, the city comes alive in the summer with regular jousting and falconry displays, a host of events, concerts and theatre known as the Carcassonne Festival and runs from late June through to September.

If you make it beyond La Cité, the lower part of Carcassonne known as the Bastide. Built within the walls, the Bastide is set out in a grid construction and provides an easy pattern to explore, eminating out from Place Carnot, where Saturday morning markets are held, and the Christmas market and Ice Rink is situated over the festive period.

A short walk along the pedestrian shopping street takes you to the Canal du Midi which winds its way round the northern sector of the town on its way through the Aude towards the Mediterranean. Even with the many boat trips available, you may not get time to see along the 175 miles of navigable waterways built in the 17th century which, in 1996, were also awarded UNESCO world heritage status. The section of the canal in Carcassonne provides a pleasant walk and views of some of the canals many locks.

If you fancy a swim, then a 5 minute stroll from the apartment will take you to the Piscine du Paicherou, an open air pool. Open throughout the summer months, it provides a large pool along with a paddling pool and plenty of room to soak up the sun. Alternatively you could explore the Lac de la Cavayere, a short drive or bus ride from the apartment, where you have a large swimming lake, water sports, inflatables splash zone and close by a forest adventure zone with zip slides across the lake. For a quieter time, dip your feet in the Aude, wander along the banks of the river to find many splash pools and playgrounds for young children.

If you wish to venture further afield, bikes are available to hire from Carcassonne Evasion 2 Roues, starting at €10 for a day up to €50 for the week. Cycle routes include the banks of the Canal du Midi but there are many more to explore.

For those of you with an adventurous holiday requirement, a 30 minute drive or bus journey will take you down the Aude to Limoux and white water rafting. Or choose a Cathar castle to climb, Montsegur is a strenuous 30 minutes for the fittest, but many more such as Puillarens or Lastours represent a more sedate climb, still with the most fantastic views to reward your efforts.

Come the winter season, the Ice Rink and Luges in Carcassonne during December may be all you need, and at €4 per hour per skating session are easily affordable for all the family. To venture further afield, the Ski resorts of the Pyrennes are within a 90 minute drive, and quieter during the weeks as the locals are all at work, but get there early on a weekend, as the drive up there becomes very busy.

The apartment is located in the centre of Carcassonne and is 15 minutes from the airport by car, bus or taxi.

There are various car hire companies at the airport and within Carcassonne itself, with Hertz being the nominated partner of choice for Ryanair.

A taxi rank operates just outside of the arrivals hall, and will cost between €10.00 and €12.00.

Agglo'bus operate a bus service into the city centre. Journey time is 15 minutes and cost is €5 one way.The bus stop is located in front of the airport. Information on timetables is available on www.carcassonne.aeroport.fr.

Alternatively, you can fly to Perpignan, and drive to Carcassonne, BMI operate flights as well as Ryanair to this airport. It is then about 1 hour drive through to the apartment.
