The Captains Apartment and Studio in the peaceful old village part of Puerto de Mogan on Gran Canaria’s southwest coast is ideal for two persons seeking a relaxing holiday or with a group of friends or family group. it can take from 2 to 6 persons and be expanded by combining it with the Captains House to make a great base for a larger party or family holiday for 8 -10 persons. Our prices run from 2 persons upwards.

The apartment has its own terrace and is tucked away just a few yards into the old village, only a couple of minutes from restaurants, the port/marina and beach (slightly longer if you stop for an ice cream on the way). So you have privacy and quiet but you are close to everything.

The apartment was set up for someone to live in full time so it is a real home from home and is fully equipped with a full kitchen facility, with big fridge freezer, microwave, oven, hob etc. It has two single beds that can be pushed together and an en-suite WC and shower, large wardrobe, and dressing table. An archway leads into the spacious living and fully fitted kitchen area. There is a big squishy sofa, a coffee table, dining table and chairs as well as a large TV with DVD player.

Although you are unlikely to need them, A/C and heating are available in the bedroom area and the kitchen/living room area has two opening skylights to keep it cool. The kitchen was set up by the previous owners who lived there full time so with our local mini market shop around the corner selling fresh bread , locally grown vegetables, fruit and drinks as well as stocking all the basics of life, and a larger well stocked supermarket in town that delivers, self-catering could not be easier.

The studio, which shares the same terrace, is never let separately from the apartment. It has a double bed and two bunk beds with its own shower and toilet.

The apartment and studio terrace is shaded by a large weeping fig tree so it is quite private. There is a separate lockable gated entrance to a path leading down to the lower terrace and apartment which is shared with the studio.The studio is never let separately from the apartment.

The terrace has patio tables and chairs and, although the lower terrace does not have a sea view, it is perfect for breakfast and a cool and secluded place to be in the heat of the day if you want a break from the beach. It is shaded by a large weeping fig tree.

From the apartment’s gated entrance you walk about 75 yards down to the little village square, cross the road on the crossing, straight onto the pedestrian bridge over the little river and you are on the beach.

The beach is a safe sandy beach, protected by a chain giving a very large swimming area and sheltered from the ocean. With a gentle slope in at any tide state and extended shallow area it is great for swimming and for small children (as well as digging). The beach is lifeguarded and has toilets and showers to get sand off feet. It also has pedaloes outside the safe swimming area. There are sun-beds and umbrellas if you want them, but plenty of space on the beach if you do not. There are restaurants directly behind the beach serving a wide variety of food as well as in the port.

The little village supermarket around the corner has most things you might want including fresh bread from early morning and there is a larger supermarket in town about 5 minutes away that delivers.. Either eating out or self-catering is very easy as there are plenty of restaurants in the port area or the beach and the food shops are very good.

The lower terrace is shared with the studio, which is never let out separately, but is used when there are more than two persons in the same party taking the apartment. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine opening onto the terrace and a small garden.

The Captains Apartment is tucked away from the bustle of the town and port. It is up a gentle slope from the village square, in a quiet part of the bottom of the old fishing village. The old village continues up the hillside in a maze of little alleyways giving magnificent views from the top.

The Apartment can only be reached on foot, but car parking is only 150 yards away with free parking behind the beach area about 5 minutes away. There is a space to stop and unload a car at the bottom of the village square near the property.

As external access is by a slope with one step into the apartment gate and only two steps in the apartment from the bedroom to the kitchen/sitting area, it is suitable for elderly or infirm persons with reasonable mobility.

The Captains Apartment and Studio can be taken in combination with the Captains House for larger parties.

We can direct you to car hire firms, where with free parking available in Puerto Mogan, the cost is often not much different for a week's hire than a taxi in both directions to and from the airport. There are some spectacular trips up into the mountains to visit picturesque villages so it is worth thinking of having a car.

Although the minimum period of stay is usually one week, please ask if you want to stay for a shorter or longer period. There are plenty of flight combinations which allow for different lengths of stay. We will always be as flexible as possible to meet your requirements. The house and apartments are available all year round.

Our local English speaking agent, Carine, lives in the town and provides a “meet and greet” service at the house when you arrive and will meet up with you at the end of your stay. She will also deal with any queries during your stay in Puerto de Mogan. Carine can arrange a taxi to meet you at the airport and if you are arriving very late a welcome pack of food can be provided at extra cost payable locally.

Puerto de Mogan Area Information

Puerto de Mogan in Gran Canaria is known locally as "The Jewel of the Canaries".

A pretty Venetian-style marina complex with houses, shops, bars and restaurants has been added to the original fishing village at Puerto de Mogan where the Captains House and apartment is situated. The old village is situated just behind the marina and is still largely populated by Canarians. Its narrow alleyways and painted houses climb back up the hillside, as the streets quickly turn into steps. It is like being in a Greek village if you want a comparison.There are no high rise buildings in Puerto de Mogan.

Puerto de Mogan is tucked away on the south of the island, nestling into the cliff at the end of a deep valley with towering scenery going back inland and separated from the north of the island by a mountain range which changes the weather. Although it feels a million miles away from the airport, the city of Las Palmas and the tourist centres of Maspalomas and Playa de los Ingles, it is less than one hour way from all of these by car, taxi or the regular bus service.

Puerto de Mogan is very well placed to explore the island’s interior as the national park, with the most spectacular scenery, is at this end of the island. The coast road stops at Puerto de Mogan and turns inland to cut across the island through a magnificent rugged mountain landscape formed by volcanic activity. You can also take a trip up into the mountains by car, taxi or bus where, at around 5,000 ft above sea level, you can experience a completely different climate and vegetation with stunning views and beautiful light, particularly at sunset.

Car hire is available in the town, neighbouring resorts, and at the airport. Taxis are cheap and plentiful (the village cab rank is a minute away from the house and apartment) and there are good bus services around and across the island.

There are trips up into the mountains with spectacular scenery to visit picturesque villages so it is worth thinking of having a car for some of the time.

For a more relaxing time the golden sand beach is large enough for those who want a sun bed and an umbrella or those who prefer to lie on a towel at the water’s edge. The safe sandy beach with calm, clear water, is shielded from the Atlantic by a breakwater and the harbour arm so that swimming is safe and perfect for children (great digging sand!) and great for swimming with a gentle walk into the sea at all tide states.

The old Canarian way of life still goes on in the old village with the local card school (men only!) meeting in the village square every evening while their wives sit outside in the local café drinking coffee and watching their children play in the square. Apart from the road into the port, the village streets (including ours) are not accessible by car.

Boat trips, deep sea fishing, dolphin watching and scuba diving are all available from the port and marina. There is a regular glass bottomed ferry service calling at resorts up the coast which goes every half hour during the day.

The small town behind the beach has plenty of shops. There is good shopping, and for food there is a well-stocked supermarket which has a wide selection of wine and food. They will deliver to your door. Tucked away down an alleyway just around the corner from us is a mini-market which sells all the basics and more, as well as delicious fresh bread daily from 8am so self catering could not be easier.

When you do not feel like cooking there is a wide variety of European restaurants in the port and the marina, serving a wide range of food including Canarian specialities as well as every other type of cuisine (even Chinese!).

Particularly noteworthy is the fishermen’s co-operative restaurant in the port that serves wonderful freshly caught fish, as do a lot of the restaurants because the port has its own small trawler fleet. It is a quiet family friendly destination and because a lot of Spanish families come to Puerto Mogan the restaurants are good. Our house notes have recommendations of where to eat.
