Sitting up on the promontory above Cabier in St. Andrew in north eastern Grenada, Two Bays Villa, designed along Colonial lines, has a 100 foot long deep shaded veranda with swing seats that wraps itself around the sitting room and the bedroom and gives stunning views over the garden to Cabier beach 100 yards away and over the two bays.

In the rear garden is an infinity swimming pool with a sun terrace shared with the two studios overlooking Crochu Bay and the ocean.

All furnishings are finished in elegant hardwood and each room has two 9 foot wide openings with folding wooden doors and adjustable wooden louvers - giving you outdoor living even when inside the villa. So you can lie on your King Size four poster bed and watch the ocean in two directions in privacy!

Two Bays, whilst privately owned, is fully maid serviced and looked after by Cabier Ocean Lodge 100 yards away and guests staying at Two Bays enjoy all the same facilities as Lodge guests. The Villa is connected to Cabier Ocean Lodge by internal telephone. Two Bays has its own private access road and parking.

Two Bays is fully equipped to self-cater or you can choose to eat and drink at Cabier Ocean Lodge restaurant and bar. The Lodge offers breakfast and dinner (and a light lunch if pre-booked) if you only want to partially self-cater - or not self-cater at all. You can just eat there when you feel like it or purchase on booking an inclusive package, with combinations of breakfast, dinner and drinks. Cabier Lodge restaurant and bar is on an open terrace shaded by trees overlooking Crochu Bay and the ocean. It is a magical place to have a drink and dinner and rather good to have breakfast too if you do not want to self-cater. All you do is tell Iris and Bruno, the Lodge managers, the night before if you want breakfast; and in the morning if you want dinner, and they will tell you what is cooking.

It is a place to completely relax, to have that special holiday, enjoy your beautiful natural surroundings and watch the pelicans diving to catch fish, frigate birds circling around the entrance to the bays, with humming birds and doves coming in to feed in the garden. The night sky and the moon, with no light pollution is magnificent, it hangs down over you with thousands of stars.

In 2008 we came to Cabier by pure chance, fell in love with it and decided that if we were going to build a holiday home in Grenada, it would be exactly where Two Bays stands today. We finished building in January 2010. Two Bays is surrounded by its gardens and it will always be possible to find your own space. There is enough garden furniture available for everyone at Two Bays.

Cabier beach, 100 yards down from Two Bays is magnificent, with clear warm water and rarely any waves and current that would prevent you swimming; the beach and both bays are protected by a long offshore reef so there is safe swimming at all tide states. There are loungers for your use on the Cabier private area just behind the beach.

There is an outside shower on our steps and one on the steps to the Lodge from the beach to wash off sand and salt after a swim. The car parking area has drying lines for towels and swimsuits.

Cabier beach has a tide fall of around 50 feet so there is plenty of firm sand. The sand is so firm that you can even play beach cricket on it for at least two hours without moving the wicket. On a Sunday there is sometimes a game to join in with the locals all of whom are very friendly. More serious cricket takes place up the road at Crochu cricket club during the season and visitors are welcome.

There is snorkelling round the inner reef into Crochu Bay; and for more experienced snorkelers and good swimmers the other side of the outer reef at low tide gives the chance to encounter schools of larger fish and soft corals. Cabier Ocean Lodge has some snorkelling gear although you will probably wish to bring your own. The Lodge also has arrangements with local boatmen to arrange trips round to local beaches only accessed by sea (they will come back to pick you up!).

Guests at Two Bays have the use of all the Lodge facilities including their gardens on the promontory point, with hammocks overlooking the ocean and reef. Their bar and restaurant is open to you and life is so casual there, that if you want a drink, you just take it from the fridge and write down what you have taken. You are after all part of the Cabier family.

If you can bring binoculars with you the pelican family are fascinating to watch in the morning and evening when they are fishing, and a pair of ospreys have been spotted, not to mention regular visits from frigate birds and humming birds. There are guide books for local flora and fauna, nature and marine life reference cards, as well as the night sky to increase your enjoyment of our natural environment as well as recommendations for local guides.

There are coastal walks in both directions and the two hotel dogs, Bella and Rocky, can sometimes be persuaded to go walkies or come for a swim. There is also Judy to fuss over, a baby island monkey rescued by Bruno and Iris and who lives in her cage behind the restaurant terrace.

There are internet connections behind the Lodge bar and restaurant area. In the Lodge sitting room is a large screen TV and DVD for the use of guests.

Some guests get so relaxed just being around Cabier that they only make a couple of trips into the outside world.

If you are a party of 4 persons then we will be happy to consider a request to give you exclusive use of the villa and studio subject to other bookings.

The garden and the infinity pool are shared by the Villa and the two studios.

Both villa and studios have room safes large enough to take a laptop and bathrooms have hairdryers. Electrical plugs and supply have both UK and USA fittings.

Air conditioning is rarely needed due to the breezes that Two Bays and Cabier enjoy, if you need it then it is available at a small extra cost.

Both Bruno (French & chef) and his wife Iris (German) speak English/French/German and their Cabier "family" of local staff led by Cindy will look after you during your stay. They will provide local information and can arrange trips and car hire etc.

They will service Two Bays daily, except Sunday, and change linen regularly. Beach towels are provided as are bath towels. You need to bring your own shower gel and shampoo, liquid soap is provided. Laundry can be arranged with your maid.

SPECIAL NOTES:

Two Bays is suitable for elderly persons although will be difficult for those with serious walking difficulties. Please check with us first if you are not sure.

Cabier and Two Bays are in a natural environment about 10 minutes down from the coastal road by vehicle. Part of the access road down to Cabier from the main road is unmade and can be a little rough at certain times of year. A 4x4 vehicle is preferable.

Smokers are welcome but please only on the verandas.

Thank you so very much for your outstanding property! We just completed our visit to Two Bays Villas last Saturday and I'm still in remission. To be honest, you're lucky that I didn't take my four T-shirts, two bathing suits and assorted other garments to claim squatter's rights on the property. My husband and I certainly don't rate as world travellers, however, we did experience several sides of Grenada during our stay. We sailed (it was great), we settled in at Lance Aux Epines and it was equally marvelous. However, staying at the Two Bays Villa was the most meaningful part of our trip. Bruno and Iris brought everything that is Grenada alive for us. We will be back. Thank you so very much once again.

… we very, very happy with the accommodation, the staff and especially the food at Cabier Ocean Lodge, the island and the friendliness of the locals. We are both fairly well travelled and whist we have enjoyed most places we have never had the inclination to return. Cabier is the first place to which we would both like to return. We would definitely recommend it to our friends and family. As a birder the birds in the environs of the villa were numerous and varied. We may have seen Grenada's first nesting pair of Ospreys from the villa balcony! They were fishing in the bay and were seen collecting sticks which is a good indicator. We have had the most marvellous relaxing holiday at in your delightful villa at Two Bays and to thank you for all the help you have given us. Our 2 weeks on Grenada has been truly unforgettable. It is such a beautiful and relatively unspoilt island. Iris and Bruno are so warm and friendly and deserve every success at Cabier.

We find ourselves thinking of our stay on Grenada every day and sneaking a look at all the pictures instead of getting our work done! WE had the most wonderful time. The villa is so beautiful, and being connected to Cabier is a definite plus as far as we are concerned. Bruno and Iris do an out-standing job along with Cindy and the other staff. The house was immaculate when we arrived.

We were astounded to see all of Bruno's pictures of the remodeling that had taken place on the Cabier Lodge in such a short time. Bruno took us on a wonderful tour that we loved.

We loved eating with two other unrelated guests. By the end of our stay we were all friends and ate together and went on a day trip together. We are still keeping in touch, One from Germany and one from Switzerland. They both came up to Two Bays for an evening where we visited. They were very impressed with Two Bays. Grenada is the original “Spice Island” and large amount of the spices you will have in your kitchen come from Grenada – nutmeg, mace, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, to name but a few. These are often grown locally and various fruits in season, pineapple, mangoes, watermelon,

prickly pears can also be purchased from local stalls and markets.

Two Bays and Cabier are situated in St Andrews parish in a natural rural environment with views of the distant mountainous rainforest on one side and the blue sea on the other. They are 45 minutes outside the capital St George’s and 20 minutes from the old capital Grenville.

A lot of people choose to live on this side of the island because of the island because of the cooling breezes.

This is very much a local rural area and the locals are very friendly (it is an old fashioned Island), still quite religious and outside the main towns very much based on local village life – locals expect you to say good day if you encounter them walking or to wave) and this part

of the island has yet to be touched by tourism.

The Grenville / Crochu area and the rest of the island.

Everywhere on the island is within a day trip from Cabier.

Getting around: Driving is on the left and is fairly easy. Day trips will take you to what you want to see on any part of the island. (you will need to purchase a temporary driving licence at the local police station – ECD$ 25 – take your green licence as well as your photo-card one). You can hire a jeep for a minimum of 3 days through Cabier Ocean Lodge.

Minibuses regularly travel along the coast road and are very cheap. They are the main means of transport for the locals. Just put your hand out and they will stop if they have room. They reach and connect to most parts of the island – if rather quickly. There are direct services to St Georges and Grenville.

Guided trips: There are local knowledgeable guides who specialize in flora and fauna and guide birders in the rainforest. There are also tour companies that do more general tours. Bruno can also give a personal guided tour from Cabier.

Walking: There is easy coastal walking along the headlands to neighbouring beaches – if you to want to take a hotel dog with you, one of them is usually game for “walkies”. For those who are interested in more serious walking the Grenada rainforest is not far away with a wide range of walking trails, colourful flora and fauna, birds , as well as monkeys. The interior of the island is spectacular with vibrant colours, try counting the shades of green. Grand Etang lake and nature reserve is nearby with its gardens and troupes of monkeys. There are organised walking tours available in the rain forest.

Waterfall swimming: There are waterfalls with pools you can swim in, the nearest is Mount Carmel about 15 minutes away. In the centre of the island there is Annandale and Seven Sisters as well as Concorde Falls where the local boys “jumping association” will take a high plunge for you (for a donation). You can also swim in the cool river water plunging down from the rain forest under the waterfall and climb behind it after you have looked at the beautiful plants and flowers growing around the falls.

Sight-seeing: There are old rum distilleries and a chocolate plantation to visit up just up our coast, as well as the disused Pearls airfield, where you can take a spin on the Cuban lengthened runway - and look at the Cuban Illuyshin aircraft stranded at the time of the American intervention in the 1980’s.

St Georges is reckoned to be the most beautiful harbour in the Caribbean. The old forts surrounding it give a wonderful view and a historical perspective to the islands history. Wander around the harbour on the Carenage and get lunch at either The New Nutmeg or BB’s overlooking the harbour.

Why not finish off the day with a cocktail standing in the water whilst watching the sun sink into the sea at BBC beach, which is just beyond the famous Grand Anse beach before driving back to Cabier?

Eating: The Caribbean is not known for its great food but there are plenty of restaurants around but mostly situated in Grenville (more local) and St George’s (Local and international). But try some of the small local restaurants as you will sample some real home cooking.

Like seafood? – then apart from enjoying Bruno’s cooking at Cabier and one of his great lobster dinners, visit Gouave, which is one of the main fishing towns on the western coast, has “Fish Friday”. On Friday night the locals open up lots of stalls selling Caribbean food and seafood along with beer and a steel band.

Grenville is the old capital from the time of the French occupation of the island and is 20 minutes from Cabier. Sitting on the sea shore, it is a truly old style West Indian town with local shopping and a large local market as well as a fish market. It bustles. It has several banks as well as a post office and local restaurants – one of which over the supermarket and overlooks the sea serves a wide selection of local food and soul food and is incredible value. For those needing a fix there is a KFC (the batter is spicier than at home) and a passable Chinese restaurant.

St George’s has several waterfront restaurants in the harbour area that are worth a visit to laze over a long lunch.

Shopping: St Georges and Grand Anse have a variety of shops selling local items. For food shopping there is our local town Grenville with a vibrant local market and small supermarkets and shops where you will be able to buy nearly everything you need to self-cater. There is a baker in Crochu on the main road just up from Cabier and a small store at the cross roads that sells essentials (including drink). In St Georges there are supermarkets that sell a lot of UK/USA foods as well as local as they cater for the international and yachting communities.

Sailing: From January to March there are regattas in Grenada and the neighbouring island of Carriacou. Day sailing trips are available as is the big game fishing. For anyone who fancies gently cruising through some of the 14 tiny islands that make up the Grenadines you can book Cabier’s Stay and Sail package that combines your stay at Two Bays with either 4 or 7 days on a yacht. Locally Cabier Ocean Lodge can organise boat trips around to deserted beaches.

Diving: The diving out of St George’s is excellent with good well lit and populated reefs and interesting wrecks. We have a special arrangement with Scuba-tech at Prickly Bay near St Georges (30 minutes by car). If you visit their website www.scubatech-grenada.com they have excellent pictures of Grenada dive sites including wrecks and reefs.

Golf: There is a small golf course just outside St Georges.

Tennis: There are public courts for hire in St George’s

Cricket: If you want to watch some local West Indian cricket then in season you may even find a village cricket match to watch. Crochu cricket club is just at the top of the road from Cabier and up to 200 people watch matches at the weekend with barbecues and beer. There are also festivals of cricket held in St Georges and a cricket museum.

Carnival: This normally takes place in the first week of August over several days and is as much for the locals as the tourists in St George’s and much more orientated to the locals in villages such as St David’s (15 minute away), Grenville, and Sauteurs at the top of the island. With original and vibrant costumes, and lots and lots of loud music, it goes on over several days in St Georges including a late night parade around the harbour – “Midnight Mass”. Everyone is having fun and all are welcome.

Two Bays and Cabier is so relaxing that of course you may not actually do very much of this or at all! – still you can always save it up for when you come back!

A word or two about the climate and the weather.

Climate: The daytime temperatures are normally in the range of 26c – 30c degrees cooled by the almost constant breezes coming off the sea which are a feature of Cabier. Two Bays, some 60 – 70 feet above the sea, benefits from these most of the time. The sun is tropical (Grenada is 12 degrees North of the equator) so plenty of sun screen is the order of the day.

Weather: Grenada is an all year round holiday destination. We find that there are common misconceptions about weather patterns in the Caribbean, especially in what has traditionally been called the “wet season” during June – November. First of all the timing and extent of the “wet season” depends on where you are in the Caribbean. The islands stretch from Venezuela to Florida and secondly it depends on where you are in Grenada.

Weather patterns with previously reliable rainy seasons have changed there too. These days you can even get showers in the “dry season” (December – April). But that is also why Grenada and the other southern Caribbean islands are 40 shades of green. When it does rain the one thing it does not do is drizzle all day, it comes with a bang and goes in around 30 minutes and is warm and dries fast. It often rains conveniently at night rather than the day !

The high mountain range in the centre of the island- the rain forest - divides the island weather. We can have sunshine on the beach but can see rain up at 1500 - 3000 ft. in the rain forest in the distance. It can rain in St Georges on the other side of the island – and not on Cabier. It can rain on the next headland and not on Cabier and vice-versa. If we get rain it comes to us off the sea. You can see it coming about 45 minutes away from out to sea as a narrow band. It takes 5 minutes to get to Two Bays or the bar or just stay in the water.

The season when it can be more wet than other times is from early September through to mid-October - the” hurricane season” (Grenada has only had 3 in 50 years) is also in this period. Hurricanes generally avoid Grenada as it is tucked well back into the Caribbean above Venezuela which is out of their usual path.
