England's weather may be unpredictable, but its extraordinary range of attractions more than make up for it. Cumbria is home to the Lake District National Park, one of England's most scenic regions, with countless lakes (or 'meres'), fell-walking trails and picturesque towns such as Ambleside. York, the ancient capital of Yorkshire, contains impressive Viking and Medieval remains, and the surrounding countryside is made up of heather-clad moorlands and a wild coastline.
